It’s called “the big day” for a reason, so of course, you want to wear the dress of your dreams on one of the most special days of your life. Whether you’ve been dreaming of your wedding since you were a little girl, or you never thought marriage was in the cards for you to begin with, picking out your wedding dress is a special milestone leading up to a special moment. The following are four steps to take to ensure the gown you wear down the aisle is the right one for you.
- Limit your entourage
It might be tempting to bring your closest friends, your favorite family members, and your mom when you try on dresses for the first or even the fifth time. It’s definitely a good idea to keep your guest list under five, including yourself, though. In doing so, you will limit unwanted and confusing opinions and create a more intimate experience for everyone involved.
- Try different styles
You might think that the mermaid style is the only one for you, but you really won’t know what looks best on you until you try it. It’s important to try on at least two different wedding dress styles; you might surprise yourself and end up wanting a gown that is strapless or a color other than white.
- Stick to your budget
Please, please, please do not look at dresses that are outside of your budget. You will most likely fall in love with a dress you cannot or are not willing to pay for. You can always go off the rack or even to a used-once bridal consignment dress if you’re looking for a specific designer that is outside of your price range. Odds are, though, you’ll definitely find a dress you love if you stick within your budget and don’t even consider looking at dresses that fall outside of that range.
- Ask questions
Be sure to ask your sales consultant all the questions that pop into your head. No question is silly, and your consultant should be knowledgeable about all of your concerns. Asking about alterations, color options, and any other modification is worthwhile if it means you’ll have the wedding dress of your dreams.
At the end of the day, as long as you love the dress you’re in, that is all that matters. You will look beautiful in whatever style, color, and length that you choose, so have fun with it. You’ll look back on your wedding day with joy when you see how happy you looked and how floored your new spouse was looking at you.
